Dental Hygiene

One of our top goals at Cottonwood Dental is to help you and your family members have excellent dental hygiene. You will be happier with your dental visits if we can keep your teeth and gums consistently clean and healthy—and help you make better dental habits.

We’ll try to help you avoid expensive dental procedures like extractions whenever possible. With twice-yearly cleanings and regular brushing and flossing, many patients are able to prevent most major dental problems. We’ll all work toward this goal as a team.

Ask us any questions you have about dental hygiene. We’re happy to help! We can also help instruct your children on healthy dental habits that should stay with them into adulthood.

What Contributes Most to Dental Hygiene?

You can never go wrong with a little more health knowledge. So here are the top four factors that lead to oral health:

  • Brush Right. We recommend brushing your teeth twice a day or more. Use a circular motion on all your teeth. Brush thoroughly but gently enough to protect your gums from harm.
  • Floss. Turn flossing into a habit. Right before brushing, floss between your teeth to prevent damaging plaque from developing there.
  • Eat Right. We don’t tell people to cut out all their favorite foods. But too much sugar or acid in your food and drinks can lead to dental damage. Consuming less soda and candy, for example, can protect your tooth enamel. It’s worth it!
  • Regular Checkups. When you visit your dentist twice a year, we can track any changes in your teeth or gums and quickly correct them. Plus, who doesn’t love that incredible feeling of extra-clean teeth?

We can be your main partner in keeping your teeth and gums as clean and healthy as possible. By practicing good dental hygiene habits, you’ll be happier with your smile, and you might even avoid the expense of major dental procedures.
